We’ll be discussing The Creative Life: A Daily Diary Study of Creativity, Affect, and Well-Being in Creative Individuals” by Smith and colleagues (2022). This paper explores daily creative activity (both work and hobby creativity) as it relates to emotions, flourishing, and personality in a sample of creative individuals (professionals and serious hobbyists). The findings lend find that creativity is linked to increases in positive emotions, decreases in negative emotions, and enhanced well-being. It also finds that these relationships may be particularly strong in creative individuals, especially those high in personality trait openness to experience.
